Make it Stick, Effective and Comfortable
The following tips for your personal style appointment will make your style appointment more effective, comfortable, and ‘sticky’. They will improve the quality of my assessment and your retention of our appointment.
I do provide eBooks to make it all stick. Having an eBook will take some pressure off of you. We go over a lot of content, and you will be glad you have something to read in depth afterwards to remind you of the points we discussed.
Where to Meet
I have met clients at a store and completed their style appointment in a fitting room. Then we go straight into pulling clothes from the floor to see how what we just talked about ‘works’. Often we meet at the client’s house and go straight into the closet to start learning how to edit out what does not work and make a list to fill the holes. I have also done style appointments in my home. That gives me more time to go deeper into the principles of creating body shape balance with design details, color theory, etc.
The Bare Necessities
These tips will help me make an accurate assessment. Brave clients often meet me without their makeup so I can see their natural skin tone. It is not helpful to come to your style appointment right after a chemical peel, or a beach trip with a sunburn, etc.
It’s also best to have your style appointment before you get your hair colored. Many of my clients tweak their hair color a tad based upon my feedback in our consult. Hair color is a significant portion of color analysis.
What to Wear
This tip is for your comfort and an accurate assessment of your body shape. I suggest wearing your best bra and underwear with some coverage or athletic leggings if you are modest (if your face turned red when you read this you are modest). Or you can bring an exercise bra and leggings to change into after you arrive. The better I can see your shape the easier it is for me to assess your bone structure, horizontal and vertical shape.
Bone structure doesn’t change no matter how much you exercise or diet. I can also see where you carry your fluff (which can come and go with diet and exercise). Lastly, in your skivvies I can see any unique body features we need to dress around like a high hip, long torso, petite top half with regular leg length, etc. These are all the nuances that impact how to dress your shape.
Wear clothes that are easy to get in and out of quickly if you are going to be trying on clothes. Hint: If we meet at a store or your house, you will probably be trying on clothes. If we meet at my house, I will give you the option to bring a few outfits you aren’t sure are the best look for you and give you feedback.
